Finding the "Best Fit" for You and Your Learning Needs

To select the best school for you, you need to have a good understanding of yourself, your learning style, and your learning needs. As you will discover in your college search, there are a wide variety of schools to choose from. Here are some questions you should ask yourself as you start the college search:

  • Do I want a small school or a large school?

  • Do I want a school that has a strong disability support program or will a basic support program be ok?

  • Do I want to be close to home or far away?

  • Am I ready to attend a 4-year college or university, or do I want to start at a community college (2-year program) and build up from there?

  • Do I want to attend a private school or a public school?

Once you have the answer to these questions, the best thing you can do is actually go to a college campus, spend some time there, and see how you feel.  People often compare choosing a college campus to finding the perfect pair of shoes.  You don't want to spend the next 2-4 years of your life in an uncomfortable pair of shoes.  Take the time to find the right school for you, regardless of what your friends are doing.
